Ocean Zero LLC invests in companies that can make a significant impact in the emissions of CO2 and other pollutants incurred by sea shipping, ferries and recreational boats.

Cargo Carriers & Container Ships

Bulk carriers and container ships produce nearly 600 million metric tons of CO2 a year—and at least 3% of all the CO2 discarded into the atmosphere every year. Cargo ships burn some of the crudest petroleum products from refineries and more than 99% of all ships at sea burn fossil fuel. A container ship burns more than 60,000 gallons of fossil fuel every 24 hours and can emit more CO2 than 50 million autos.

Sport & Recreational Boats

More than 800,000 outboard engines are sold each year. Two-stroke outboards can emit as much as 25% of the fossil fuel into the atmosphere and water. Outboard engines do not have pollution controls such as catalytic converters, are horribly inefficient and emit carcinogens such as benzene, toluene, and xylene, not to mention nitrogen oxides. One gallon of gasoline weighing 6 pounds and burned in a marine engine produces 19 pounds of CO2.

By volume, 90% of all goods traded between nations travel on ships.’

‘Cargo ships emit more CO2 into the atmosphere each year than all the airlines in the world’
